With such a great website, parents often ask us why they need a catalogue. Well, I just had a funny conversation with a mom in California that confirms our notion that a CedarWorks catalogue is a must-have. Her family has been in the market for a swing set for years, but her husband has been dragging his feet unconvinced his kids were really interested.

That’s until our catalogue arrived.

The kids, now 5 and 8, immediately got down to work. They discussed their favorite accessories; dog-eared pages of preferred designs; drew diagrams of the backyard with various playset configurations; and even asked about the family budget!

According to the mom, it became such a distraction at breakfast time that she finally had to take the catalogue away.  But that was also because her husband had come around in his thinking and he wanted some time with the catalogue, too. He figured if the kids could be that excited about a catalogue and remain that interested for so long, then it was about time they bought a swing set.

I couldn’t agree more.

This all reminds me of another funny catalogue story one mom told us years ago. She had noticed that her 6-year-old son was spending an inordinate amount of time looking at their CedarWorks catalogue. She then noticed that he spent an even more unusual amount of time looking at one particular photo. Turns out, he had a crush on one of our particularly cute kid models.

To this particular mom, it was funny enough that her son could have a crush on a photo, but she found hilarious what happened next. After not seeing the catalogue for several weeks, the mom was dutifully making her son’s bed one morning when she felt something wedged against the wall – the CedarWorks catalogue. Apparently, he had snuck the catalogue up to his room for private viewing. Laughing a bit nervously, the mom told me she had visions of finding something not quite so innocent in a similar manner 10 years hence!
