Why don’t you discount?
Because we don’t have artificially inflated retail prices to create the illusion of a discount. And because we believe in honesty and fairness in pricing. It’s that simple.
When you purchase most items, like gasoline or even an oriental rug, you have a pretty good idea what to expect. The price you see for the gas is the price you will pay. The price you see for the oriental rug is massively inflated and you will get a 40%-60% “discount”. You have some basic knowledge about pricing and discounts for nearly everything you buy.But for most families, a swing set is a once in a lifetime purchase. So, when you show up at a swing set dealer and see a “Swing into Spring Sale” offering 30% off, you might logically assume there were special bargains to be had. What you don’t know is that this sale just followed the “President’s Month Sale”, and will soon be followed by the “Easter Savings Bonanza”, the “Memorial Day Blowout”, “Schools Out Special”, “Fourth of July Fiesta”, etc.
The reality is that most swing set dealers have never sold a swing set at their listed “retail” price. Just ask them when they last did so. Their hemming and hawing will beg the following question: if a swing set is 30% off every day of the year, is it really 30% off? Off of what?
Our pricing policy at CedarWorks is simple, straight-forward, and downright old fashioned. We determine what we believe to be the appropriate value for our products, consider what is needed to run our business, then we set a price. Every customer pays the same price. No one pays more and no one pays less.
Yes, we have been tempted to “play the game” and inflate our prices 25% just to discount them back to our target price. In fact, I am sure that we would sell a few more swing sets if we did. But it has just never felt like the right thing to do, so we don’t do it.
Fortunately, tens of thousands of families over the years have appreciated our approach to business. I hope you do, too.
