Rhapsody in Teal
… and aqua, and chartreuse, and red. And natural wood. And, there you have it, our new product line name: Rhapsody.
This name was selected from a list of nearly 100 suggestions we received from you over the past few weeks. Each member of our creative team here at CedarWorks reviewed the list and chose their five favorite names. Rhapsody was on everyone’s list, so it became our tentative first choice.
We then set about doing a bit of research. The first dictionary definition we found was not at all what we expected: “An epic poem suitable for recitation”. Huh?
But the balance of definitions felt right: “ecstatic expression”, “enthusiasm”, “improvisation”, “state of elated bliss”, and “composition irregular in form”. That certainly captures not only the desired emotional state of the user, but also the infinite custom configurations possible with the product line.
A little more research reveals that Rhapsody is currently used for music services, software, and some other odds and ends, which was to be expected, so we will have to run this by a copyright attorney. And it was my wife, Lynne, who came up with the only truly concerning negative association with the word. As she put it, “it reminds me of really bad music from the 1970’s”. Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, of course! I can’t believe we hadn’t all thought of this.
So, these minor concerns notwithstanding, Rhapsody is the name of our new indoor product line. A big thanks to Dee Boehmer, who is a great fan of CedarWorks and who lives right here in Maine, for suggesting the name. If her name sounds familiar to some of you, it is likely because Dee helped design your CedarWorks playset. Dee has worked here at CedarWorks for more than 5 years, and just like all of you, first heard about our naming contest on the blog and submitted several ideas.
