Expand/Collapse Question What type of wood is used in CedarWorks swing sets?
Northern white cedar is the only wood used in our swing sets and playsets (except for customers who specifically request teak). Northern white cedar is naturally splinter-free, requires no maintenance, and is the longest lasting natural wood used in playsets. And it is only available from CedarWorks.
Expand/Collapse Question Does CedarWorks use any chemically-treated wood?
The wood used in CedarWorks' playsets is naturally splinter-free and naturally rot-resistant, so there is no need to add chemicals by staining, painting or pressure-treating the wood. This not only protects your children from toxic pressure-treatment chemicals, such as arsenic, but also eliminates the costly and time-consuming sanding, sealing and staining of all other natural wood playsets.
Expand/Collapse Question Are CedarWorks playsets strong enough to hold adults?
Some companies must put weight limits on their playsets which prevent adults from climbing on them. Not us. CedarWorks playsets are made from the largest beams, posts, platforms and braces of any residential swing set. Therefore, parents, kids and even whole neighborhoods can climb on our playsets.
Expand/Collapse Question How often do CedarWorks playsets require sanding and sealing?
Never. The northern white cedar used in CedarWorks playsets is naturally rot-resistant and splinter-free, so it is not necessary to sand or seal the wood. All other wooden playsets require regular sanding and sealing to control splinters or preserve the wood. Some high-end playsets even need to be stained just to make the various species of wood used in the playset match in color. The cost of sealant or stain alone over the life of a playset can reach $500 or more which is why so many playset companies sell it. A CedarWorks playset will remain rot-resistant and splinter-free over the years without any maintenance.
Expand/Collapse Question What type of safety features are included in your playsets?
We have many unique features to keep your child safe while enjoying our playset. Our wood is chemical free and splinter free. Our Surestep system allows even young children to enjoy the fun of climbing within the safety of the climbing structures. We have the most space between activities to minimize accidents and our fences protect them from falls.
Expand/Collapse Question What ages are appropriate for CedarWorks playsets?
CedarWorks playsets are made for everyone from newborns to grandparents. Infants not yet able to sit up on their own can be safely cradled while swinging in our patent pending Kid Swing (which also converts to a firm bottomed swing for toddlers!). Toddlers, starting at 18 months, can climb safely on platforms inside of our playsets using the exclusive CedarWorks SureStep System. And, because CedarWorks playsets are strong enough to hold adults, older kids and parents can always join in the fun.
Expand/Collapse Question A playset is a major investment. How long will my children use it?
Children will continue to use a playset if it provides activities which match their evolving interests in physical and social play. Because CedarWorks playsets provide more platform playspace, more climbing activities, and more accessories than any other playsets, we know that children continue to use our products into their early teens. CedarWorks modular design system also lets you custom design a playset to meet your family's current needs and lets you rearrange and add accessories and structures over time as your family's needs change. All of this means that you will have a playset which your family will enjoy for many, many years.
Expand/Collapse Question How do I choose a playset? Can I customize my own set?
The playsets on this website and in our catalogue are examples, not packages. So, you're not restricted to just what you see, and you pay only for the items that you want. Some families find that one of these examples is a perfect match for their kids and their yard. Other families find an example that's close, but choose to customize by adding, subtracting, and rearranging accessories. And some families start with a wish list and create a custom design from scratch. In all circumstances, CedarWorks is there to help. Have fun creating a playset with our exclusive online design tools, or call one of our playset consultants at 800-GO-CEDAR for assistance.
Expand/Collapse Question Do you sell through distributors?
No, we only sell directly to customers. This ensures we deliver consistent, high quality service to our customers by providing a single expert resource dedicated to their satisfaction. Unlike many distributors, we only sell playsets and therefore commit 100% of our resources and attention to our playset products. Expand/Collapse Question Can I see a playset in person before I buy one?
Yes, With the CedarWorks See-A-Set program, we arrange for you to visit the home and playset of a customer in your area. There are no sales people involved and no high-pressure sales tactics, just parents like you. Please call us to arrange a See-A-Set visit. And, if you are ever in Maine, we love to have visitors to our beautiful offices and display are on Route 1 in Rockport.
Expand/Collapse Question Are installation services available?
Yes. CedarWorks has a network of independent contractors who have been installing CedarWorks playsets for years. Please call us to find out if there is an installer in your area. If you choose to assemble a CedarWorks playset yourself, rest assured that our playsets are designed with ease-of-assembly in mind. Many components arrive pre-assembled, and all playsets come complete with easy-to-read instructions and an assembly DVD.
Expand/Collapse Question What preparation is needed before the playset is delivered?
First, pick a location in your yard that allows 6 feet of space around all sides of the set you choose. The location should also be relatively flat. We have drilled extra holes so you can adjust the playset up or down as much as seven inches if the ground is not perfectly level. Next, we suggest you prepare the surface by putting down either wood chips or pea stone. (Check the Consumer Product Safety Commission website for more information at www.cpsc.gov).
Expand/Collapse Question How is the playset delivered?
When you place your order we will provide you with the exact date the playset ships from our manufacturing facility in Rockland, Maine. The trucking company will call you prior to the playset delivery to confirm the delivery date and time. The playset will arrive in numbered boxes, and a packing list is included to tell you what pieces are in each box.
Expand/Collapse Question What if we move after we install the playset. Can we take it with us?
You may take the set with you when you move. It is not mounted in the ground and it is easy to disassemble into components suitable for moving. Many of our current customers have moved their sets all over the country.
Expand/Collapse Question How do CedarWorks prices compare to other playsets?
Our playsets are comparable in price to other high quality premium playsets. However, because we ship directly to your home, you pay no sales tax (unless you live in Maine). In addition, our playsets do not require annual sanding and sealing like all other wooden playsets which represents a savings of at least $500 (not including labor) over the lifetime of your playset.
